Aged & Disability Support - 
Clinical and social assessment with task-based, goal-based and restorative models of care aimed at helping you to maintain your independence, both in your home and in your community.

Rehabilitation & Injury Related Services - 
Clinical and social assessment, with complex, non-complex and goal-based care and support aimed at helping you to improve and restore normal function, be as independent as possible and achieve your goals.

Long-term Condition Management - 
Clinical and social assessment with qualified care and support aimed at maximising your independence and helping you to cope with your condition. This involves informing and empowering you to live as safely and fully as possible.

Clinical & Recovery Services - 
Specialised and personalised clinical care and support provided by qualified staff including nurses, physiotherapists, social workers and other allied health professionals. This includes post-hospital support and palliative care.

In-home Respite Care - 
Both everyday and crisis respite care and support to maintain safety and provide primary carers with a much-needed break.

Restorative & Goals-Based Support - 
Specialised services that support people to live their lives to the fullest, by helping them to identify their goals and be as functional and independent as possible.

We are the only full service disability support organisation in Southland. We assist with in-home personal care and housework, disability information and equipment, leisure and recreation needs, and transport options.

Our shop at disAbilities Resource Centre Southland stocks a large range of disability equipment to make every day activities  easier.

Healthcare-NZ Tauranga- Community Services


Home help services support people where disability, health issues or rehabilitation from an accident make it difficult for clients to maintain their personal hygiene, or organise or control their household. The services are delivered in the client’s home to enable them to continue living in their community.
Home support services include household management, personal care, and advanced personal care services. In addition they offer overnight care which provides an in-home personal care service overnight.

Household management includes:
  • Household laundry and ironing
  • Vacuuming and dusting
  • Cleaning bathrooms and toilets
  • Bed changing and making
  • Preparing and assisting with meals
  • Minor maintenance (eg. changing light bulbs)
  • Other essential household tasks. 

Personal Care and Advanced Personal Care includes:
  • Bathing/showering
  • Assistance with dressing/undressing
  • Toileting
  • Transferring and positioning
  • Application of TED stockings
  • Personal grooming
  • Providing medication reminder
  • Assistance with mobility
  • Passive exercises/maintenance stretches.

Some of HealthCare NZ's clients require more advanced personal care services in order to remain independent in their own home. 

Advanced personal care services are delivered by specialised support workers who are trained, assessed and supervised by Registered Nurses. As well as the personal care services above, advanced personal care includes:
  • Supervision of medication
  • Bowel care
  • Tube/peg feeding
  • Oxygen administration
  • Catheter care
  • Assistance with incontinence care
  • Blood glucose monitoring.

Overnight care offers support with personal care overnight. A Support Worker will sleep over in a person’s home to provide support as required.

In addition to providing support during the night, overnight care support workers can also help with:
  • Preparing supper
  • Preparing for bed
  • Toileting
  • Showering
  • Dressing in the morning
  • Breakfast preparation
  • Making the bed.

Home based support for household management, personal care, advanced personal care and overnight care is assessed through a Needs Assessment Service Coordination Agency (NASC). You can ask your NASC to refer you to HealthCare NZ to provide your support.

You can also access these services through your ACC Case Manager or your local GP.

If you are not eligible for funding for these services, they also provide a range of services to clients paying privately:

McIsaac Healthcare

McIsaac Healthcare provides specialised home based support for people with a spinal injury, traumatic brain injury and complex care needs.

24 Hour Care
Our model of care revolves around our clients. We know they want reliable, well trained staff members who remain with them for the long term. In addition, they want us to support them with appropriate supervision, training and management of support workers in their homes.

Unlike many care providers, our business is set up to manage on a 24 hour, 365 day per year basis. This forms the heart of our service. In each of our regions, we employ a locally based service managers, who in turn works with a small number of clients and their support teams to provide a personalised yet professional support service. Our service managers are available around the clock to support our clients and their support workers. Our support includes:

Personal Attendant Care
  • giving support to our clients to protect them from further injury
  • coaching in activities of everyday living, in conveying and receiving information, and in interacting with other people
  • developing personal skills such as planning, personal orientation, task completion and communication
  • assistance with eating and drinking, observing and/or monitoring intake, assistance with adherence to special diets
  • assistance with personal grooming activities, hair maintenance, and teeth cleaning
  • assistance with undressing and dressing, transferring into and out of the shower, washing and drying, hair washing and observing and monitoring the condition of skin and scalp
  • physically assisting our clients' mobility, both inside the house and in the community, including correct positioning in wheelchairs and vehicles so that our clients can participate equally in the community.

Advanced Attendant Care
Most of our clients require more advanced care to enable them to remain independent, so it is usual that all of our staff are trained to deliver advanced care. While training begins as a generic programme, every caregiver is given hands-on training with their clients which includes:

  • bowel and bladder management
  • positioning
  • skin integrity
  • catheter care
  • supervision of medication
  • blood glucose monitoring

Overnight Care
We support our clients, where necessary, with overnight care. This usually involves preparing our clients for bed, and sleeping at our client's home in order to provide intermittent care throughout the night. In some circumstances, our staff members work through the night providing basic attendant care.
