Supplements Variously known as dietary supplements, food supplements, nutritional supplements or vitamin supplements, these products are preparations intended to provide nutrients that are potentially missing, or lacking, from a modern diet. The main nutrients provided by these supplements are amino acids, vitamins, minerals, fibre and fatty acids. While they may be a potentially useful addition to a healthy diet, they are not as effective as the vitamin or mineral in its natural state. For example, Vitamin D from natural sunlight, oily fish and eggs is better for the body than a supplement, unless you have been assessed as being at high risk of deficiency. |
